"House of the Dragon" is a popular fantasy series by HBO, serving as a prequel to Game of Thrones, based on George R. R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood. The events take place approximately 200 years before the main saga and focus on the history of House Targaryen, a family known for their dominance over dragons and rule over Westeros. 

What is "House of the Dragon" about? 

After the death of King Viserys I, a fierce battle for the Iron Throne ensues between his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen, the rightful heir to the throne, and his son Aegon II, who is supported by part of the nobility and his mother, Alicent Hightower.
This conflict divides House Targaryen into two factions — the "Blacks" (supporters of Rhaenyra) and the "Greens" (supporters of Aegon). It led to a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, which devastated Westeros and caused massive losses, including many dragons, who were the main power of House Targaryen.
The series masterfully depicts how the lust for power and ambition destroy family bonds, while civil war brings suffering, betrayal, and catastrophic consequences not only for House Targaryen but for all of Westeros.
