More about the UPL 2024/2025
On August 3, the Ukrainian Premier League football tournament 2024/25, the country's most prestigious football competition among men's teams, started, which has been held annually since 2008.
The participating teams
The list of participants in the Ukrainian Premier League 2024/2025 is already known. This year, traditionally, 16 professional teams will compete for the title of the best football club in Ukraine:
- • «Shakhtar» Donetsk;
- • «Dynamo» (Kyiv);
- • «Veres» (Rivne);
- • «Vorskla» (Poltava);
- • «Zorya» (Luhansk);
- • «Ingulets» (formerly Petrovo);
- • «Karpaty» (Lviv);
- • «Kolos» Kovalivka;
- • «Kryvbas» (Kryvyi Rih);
- • «Livyi Bereh» (Kyiv);
- • «LNZ» (Cherkasy);
- • «Obolon» (Kyiv);
- • «FC Oleksandriya» (Oleksandriya);
- • «Polissya» (Zhytomyr);
- • «Rukh» (Lviv);
- • «Chornomorets» (Odesa).
There are three newcomers among the participating teams: «Ingulets», «Karpaty», and «Livyi Bereh», while «Shakhtar» Donetsk, which won last year's championship, traditionally takes the lead. The lifelong rival of the champion team, «Dynamo» Kyiv, took second place last season. Fans are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the new season, as the fight promises to be fierce!
Competition regulations
The championship is attended by 16 teams that compete in two rounds in a round-robin system.
Based on the results of the season, 3 teams qualify for the European Cups: the national champion gets to the Champions League, and the silver and bronze medalists - to the Conference League. If the winner of the Ukrainian Cup, which gets a place in the Europa League, is also one of the runners-up, a fourth team will qualify for European competitions.
The teams that take 15th and 16th place will go directly to the first league, while those that take 13th and 14th place will play playoff matches with the 4th and 3rd teams of the first league, respectively.
In the event of a tie between two or more teams, the following criteria will be used to determine the places:
- • more points in head-to-head meetings between these teams;
- • better goal difference in head-to-head matches;
- • more goals scored in head-to-head meetings;
- • better goal difference in all matches;
- • more goals scored in all matches.
