What is the series “Mr. Mercedes” about?

Several years ago, the city was shaken by a terrible tragedy: an unknown man driving a stolen Mercedes deliberately crashed into a crowd near a job fair. Innocent people were killed, dozens were injured, and the criminal disappeared without a trace. For detective Bill Hodges, the case became a personal failure. After retiring, he lives a lonely and emotionally exhausted life, unable to forget the unsolved crime.
One day, however, Hodges receives a letter from someone calling himself “Mr. Mercedes.” The killer begins playing a psychological game with him, taking pleasure in fear, manipulation, and his own sense of impunity. At first glance, Brady Hartsfield seems like an ordinary young man, but behind his quiet lifestyle hides a dangerous psychopath.
As the confrontation between Bill and Brady intensifies, they are both pushed closer to a breaking point where one mistake could cost lives.
